The University of Tours is one of the only institutions in Europe to offer an integrated master’s degree in digital archaeology (archaeology and information technology). Attached to the Archéologie et Territoires research laboratory (UMR 7324 CITERES), the programme benefits from a strong training and research partnership with the French National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (INRAP).
Our curriculum provides future archaeologists with the professional training required to navigate critical issues that are common in today’s field. It prepares students for careers in preventative archaeology while also providing the groundwork for innovative research based on the implementation of data collected first-hand. Students are able to design their own course
curriculum based on their career objectives and areas of interest.
Courses cover protohistory to modern times, and options include spatial analysis in urban or rural environments, architecture and construction techniques, archaeozoology, and artefact studies (ceramics, glass, metal objects).
The programme develops new forms of specialized training and thus offers students a professional degree as well as hands-on experience in new fields of research that can be pursued at the postgraduate level.
